What is the best time of year to prune/ trim trees?
Deciduous trees that flower before the end of May, should be pruned as soon as blooming is complete.
Deciduous trees that flower after the month of May should be pruned between January and March, Prune flowering cherries in late summer. Evergreens in May, Conifers in autumn and cut out dead damaged or diseased wood as it is discovered.

Don't plant too close to the house. Branches can damage siding, gutters and roofing, and roots can block sewer and drain lines. If the tree is deciduous (leafy), leaves will quickly clog the gutters in the fall.
